North American native that does well in shady spots. Clump-forming cool season grass. Flower panicles give winter interest. Cut foliage to the ground in late winter. Does well in average, well-drained soil in part shade. Will tolerate more shade and moisture than Miscanthus, Pennisetums, and Panicums. Great massed in woodland gardens or naturalized areas. Also good specimen with other shade loving plants like Heuchera, hostas, ferns, campanulas, and woods asters. Use for erosion control.
