Tall clumps of stems bearing thin, rich green leaves are topped with generous sprays of showy crimson tubular flowers with white lips. They resemble little birds perched on branches. Thrives in full sun to partial shade in average or sandy soil. Do not fertilize- prefers lean soils.  Native to Arizona and New Mexico. Tall plant for the back of the border for all summer color. Plant with ‘Blue Fortune’ hyssop, grasses, helianthus, Becky daisy, and Russian sage.
