Native woodland plant with large leaves, 3 lobed and almost as wide as long. Flowers are held on long pedicel and have a subtle mangy smell. Easy to grow  Summer dormant. Plant in part shade in humusy woodland soil.  Native over most of the Eastern US. Native plant for woodland or shady rock garden. Naturalize with ferns, uvularia, bleeding hearts, and tiarella.
