Trusses of gorgeous late spring flowers bloom in soft pink and feature an orchid like splotch that begins green and ages to red. 'Olga Mezitt's' evergreen foliage gains attractive copper and burgundy winter coloring and is disease resistant. This rhododendron looks great in beds, borders, hedges, screens, woodland gardens and margins, foundation plantings, in groups and as a specimen.
Full sun - part shade. Acidic, rich, humusy, moist, well-draining soil. Protect from high winds. Zone 4-8.
Attracts pollinators including butterflies and hummingbirds.
Consider planting in raised bed if planting in heavy clay soil.
Apply mulch to protect shallow root system as well as maintain soil moisture and stabilize soil temperatures.
To lower pH add an acidifier such as sulfur of iron sulfate, to increase pH add limestone or lime to soil.
Remove spent blooms immediately after flowering.
