Large, sturdy, easy to cultivate, deciduous, wood fern with nicely divided fronds. Upright vase-habit. Naturally occurring in tropical Mexico. Great in garden cultivation.  Bright shade or part sun.  Protect from wind.  Best planted in a mass.  Use to naturalize areas with spring woodland bulbs, bleeding hearts, actaea, epimedium, tiarella, columbine, and uvularia. Plant in shady borders and as a groundcover for woodland shrubs.
