Basal mound of deeply divided orbicular leaves rise on stiff stems and produce long, broad racemes of flowers. Flower stalks may need staking, or protection from the wind. Long, showy spikes of violet purple blooms with a dark bee. Prefers deep, moist, humus rich soil in full sun. Are heavy feeders so fertilize or mulch with rich compost. Delphiniums do best on basic soil, so add lime if your soil is acidic. They donβt like the heat of our summers, so keep them moist during hot periods. Zone 3-8.
