This Lilac features dark purple buds that open in mid-late spring for the first round of deep purple-lilac colored flowers and super fragrant blooms that will remain open for weeks. After taking a bit of a break in early summer, 'Bloomerang Dark Purple' is back at it again with subsequent blooming continuing through frost. Being disease resistant, you'll spend less time fretting over powdery mildew and more time enjoying this beautiful mounding shrub. Works well in the landscape, in containers, and as cut flower.
Full sun. Average, moist, well-draining soil. Zone 3-7.
Attracts pollinators including butterflies and hummingbirds, deer resistant.
Pruning is not necessary in order for this shrub to rebloom, however removal of spent flowers will eliminate seed production, and garner more energy for reblooming. If trimmed, subsequent reblooms will occur a few week late than untrimmed Lilacs.
Fertilizing can be done first in spring once ground has thawed, and again in late spring after initial blooming.
