Palm-like suckering perennial with leaves up to 5 feet long. I’ve seen some in Oxford, planted as a windbreak, come back several years. Mulch heavily in the fall. Sun-part shade in average soil. Tolerates damp, but not wet. A hard frost will kill the foliage, at this point, cut tree back to 2-3’ and mulch the roots heavily. Zone 7-10. Zone 6 with protection. Interesting specimen tree or summer privacy screen. Very tropical appearance.
