The 'Allegany' Viburnum cultivar produces long, green, semi-evergreen foliage on a dense, globular, multi-stemmed form. In spring, flat trusses of creamy white flowers bloom and give way to summer berries that first appear bright red, and then ripen to black. For best pollination its recommended that 'Alleghany' be planted with other leather leaf viburnums such as 'Fence Line', 'Emerald Envy', or 'Red Balloon'. With good erosion control, consider planting this viburnum on slopes. It also works well when planted in boarders, screens or hedges, as a specimen, or in groups.
Full sun - part shade. Average, moist, well-draining soil. Zone 5-8.
Attracts pollinators including butterflies, good erosion control.
Blooms on old wood - if needed, prune immediately after flowering, however this will be at the expense of fruit.
