Large dramatic plant with huge dark green and glossy, deeply divided, spiny leaves. Spikes of prehistoric looking flowers appear in summer. Deadhead quickly after bloom to rejuvenate plant. Full Sun or Partial Shade.  Normal, sandy or clay soil.  Neutral, Alkaline or Acid Soil.  Average or Moist Soil.   Avoid locations with wet soil in the winter months.   Zone 6-9 but worth trying in Zone 5 with a winter mulch.  May be divided or moved in spring, and any root pieces left in the ground will grow into new little plants. Dramatic foliage and imposing flower spikes makes this plant stand out in any border.  Very bold texture.  Use for Borders, Containers, Cut flowers, Dried Flowers or as a Specimen plant.
