6 inch wide corms sit above or just below soil. Creeping dark green leaves heavily marbled with paler green appear with or shortly after the flowers. Dormant in summer. Semi-evergreen. Full to part shade in soil rich in organic matter with good drainage. Water during growth period but allow to dry out during summer. Corms best left undisturbed and will grow larger and flower more abundantly each season. Zone:  5-9. Plant under trees and around shrubs. Showy along the shady path and in front of shady border. Great fall woodland landscaping plant.
