US native. A tall sparsely branching plant with nearly leafless long stems shooting from a basal clump of foliage. Flowers are spidery and attract butterflies, seed heads attract birds. Full sun in well drained medium to dry soil . Tough plants with a deep taproot, tolerant of extended drought. Native over most of US. Zone 3-10. Wonderful in mass in wildflower and butterfly gardens. Plant with liatris, asclepias, solidago, boltonia, nepeta, and shasta daisy.
