A joe-pye-weed with a height more appropriate for the smaller garden. A bold plant with a shrubby look. Stiff stems with opposite lance shaped leaves and large cone shaped clusters of blooms. Butterflies love this plant. Sun to part shade in average moist soil. Will tolerate boggy soil. Use in cut flower garden, meadow garden, mixed border as a specimen plant in the back of border with echinacea, garden phlox, rudbeckia, solidago, heliopsis, daylilies, helenium, fall blooming sedum, and ornamental grass.
