Erect, semi-evergreen holly fern that is the hardiest of the species. A pale dull green fern with scattered black scales on the stipe and rachis. They thrive in shaded, rich soil. Must have good drainage in winter for survival. Ground cover plant for shady woodland areas. Use to naturalize an area with other shade loving plants like woodland phlox, tiarella, hosta, asarum, and galium.
