Grass Andropogon Blackhawks Big Bluestem

Tall, native grass that emerges deep green to purple in spring and matures to black leave sin fall. Great native grass for height. Easily grown in average, dry to medium, well-drained soils in full sun. Tolerant of a wide range of soils and growing conditions. Puts out lots of growth in moist, fertile soils, but is less apt to topple in dryish, infertile soils. Cut stems to the ground in late winter before new shoots appear.  Zones 3-9. Best used in mass or as part of a meadow planting. Also a showy specimen in a rain garden.
