Grass Panicum Virgatum Hot Rod

Tall, upright blades emerge green but rapidly reddens until the whole plant is a rich deep maroon. Flowers in airy red panicles. Full sun, in well-drained, lean soil. Prefers a little moisture but will tolerate dry conditions. Tolerates wind and salt spray.  Zone 4-9. A back of the border or screen plant. Plant with monarda, rudbeckia, coneflowers, and asters.

A haven for wintering birds.
