Hellebores are the harbingers of spring, blooming for six weeks or more beginning in late winter. They are often flowering during the Christian season of Lent, from which they get their common name, Lenten Rose.
Shade to partial shade in alkaline soil.
Do not fertilize in summer during their resting period, mulch and fertilize in fall for best bud count in spring.
Plant in shady borders or light woodlands. Plant with ferns, hosta, tiarella, lungwort, cyclamen, and sweet woodruff. Can also be used for container planting to bring the woodland closer to your home.
Deer resistant.
