Native plant from the Appalachians. Clumps of 10 inch high fine, shiny, deep green, grassy leaves send up numerous flowering spikes. Full sun in medium to dry average to infertile soil. Tolerant of clay soil and drought. Zone 5-9. Plant as dry ground cover, in wild gardens, or border fronts with butterfly weed, boltonia, knautia, daisies, Russian sage, anthemis, and heliopsis.
