Erect spikes of red flowers and lance shaped green leaves. Grow from a rosette of leaves that often remain green all winter. Attracts hummingbirds. Plant along streams, ponds, or moist woods. Prefer rich, constantly moist soil in light to partial shade. Plants short lived, but self-seed if not heavily mulched. Zone 3-9
