Native plant with creeping, rooting stems with heart shaped leaves. Forms a quiet green carpet in moist shade. Spectacular in bloom. Great native substitute for Ajuga or Lamium. Does best in full shade to part Sun in humus-rich, moist soil. Native from PA to VA, west to Mississippi River. Native substitute for ajuga or lamium, perfect underplanting for taller woodland plants like Solomon’s seal, trillium, helleborus, ferns, or for those that go dormant early like Virginia bluebells and dicentra.
