Penstemon Blackbeard

The dark feature referenced on this plant is it’s incredible foliage. Dark purple stems with leaves mounding in deep eggplant purple leaves. The flowers raise high above the  foliage. Seed pods are dark burgundy. Does well when planted in full sun with well-drained soil,  this plant likes very little water. Fertilize once per month for best results. Removing spent flower stems will encourage repeat blooming. Plant with artemisia, catananche, poppies, yucca, sedum, verbascum, butterfly weed, liatris, and yarrow.              

 Zone 3-8.  Very cold hardy.
