A historic northeastern native, Gaylussacia is a vigorous, low growing shrub. Glossy, leathery leaves hold year-round and turn fiery merlot from fall into winter. Spring flowers make way for edible berries. Use as a ground cover, and can be added to the edible garden.

Full sun-shade. Average, humusy, acidic, moist, well-draining soil.
