Green leaves form a basal rosette in the spring. Large double flowers are born above the foliage in early spring. Thrives in part to full shade in well-drained soil kept evenly moist. Mulch in the winter. Very hardy species for naturalizing. Plant in clumps and drifts with spring bulbs such as tulips, snowdrops, and daffodils. Plant in shady rocky areas, and in containers for spring.
