One of the brightest red native flowers. Basal clumps of lance shaped dark green leaves send up sticky, branched stems bearing clusters of vivid red blooms. Reseeds. Plant in full sun, in moist soil, with some afternoon shade. Does well in lightly shaded bed or woods edge. Plant with campanula, centranthus, digitalis, aruncus, trollius, lupine, and delphinium belladonna.
