Beautiful native and widely adaptable multi-stemmed shrub grown for its persistent red fruit and brilliant red fall foliage color.

Full sun to part shade- most berries in full sun in acid, well-drained, rich soil. Too much shade will give plant a loose habit. Extremely adaptable to a wide range of soil conditions including heavy clay, and boggy soils. This means its a great option for rain gardens!

Stellar erosion control, use as stabilizer on slopes, moist banks and along streams.  Zone 4-9. Use in borders or mass.

Excellent pollinator support as fruit is eaten by birds later in season. Somewhat deer and rabbit resistant- in spring when food sources are scarce, deer/rabbits may browse on flowers but typically not to a degree that would severely damage the plant.

Use in borders or mass.

Practice renewal pruning by removing some of the oldest shoots at the ground to control size and shape. If preventing colonial spread is desired, remove suckers. Disease and insect free.
