Exotic in appearance, but very hardy, valuable shade plant with evergreen leathery foliage and very early long-lasting blooms. Plants multiply readily into long lived colonies. Shear in late winter every 2-3 years to rejuvenate. Clusters of saucer shaped flower & open pink blooms maturing to burgundy red. Evenly moist, humus rich soil in light to partial shade. Do not fertilize in summer, since they are in their resting period. Provide a nice fresh layer of mulch and fertilize in fall for best bud count in early spring. Zone 5.
