Part sun - shade. Rich, acidic, humusy, moist, well-draining soil. Protect from high winds. Zone 5-9.

Consider planting in raised bed if planting in heavy clay soil.
Apply mulch to protect shallow root system as well as maintain soil moisture and stabilize soil temperatures.
To lower pH add an acidifier such as sulfur of iron sulfate, to increase pH add limestone or lime to soil.
Remove spent blooms immediately after flowering.
