Aucuba is a great plant for dry shade. It can stand some of the deepest shade out of any shrub. Glossy evergreen leaves are dappled with gold spots which has a brightening effect for dark areas of the garden.
Small white flowers are inconspicuous. Grown mainly for foliage. Pollinates female Aucubas so they produce berries. Use as a specimen in shade gardens, under trees, in containers, or as part of the foundation planting.
Deer resistant.
Prune to shape as desired in the late winter or early spring. Blooms on new wood.
