Astrantia Star of Fire

Clump forming plant with masses of purple tinted palm shaped leaves. Wiry stems rise above the foliage, each tipped with a rounded dark purple flowerheads set in a cup of bracts.

Excellent reblooming cutflower.

Plant in humus rich soil, in moist but well drained site in partial shade. 

Must have some sun for the flowers to color up.  Zone 4-7.

Very effective when naturalized under light open trees. Wonderful additions to the shady herbaceous border and streamside garden. The individual flowers have a lacy beauty that is seen to best effect if the plants are placed close to a path or edge of the border.
