Tough very upright stem with broad, elliptical, opposite green leaves. Large umbrella shaped flowerheads on tall stems make seedpods that are stunning in dried arrangements. Full sun in moist to wet soil. Tolerates heat well. Great for moist meadows and pond sites. Zone 3-9. Excellent for use in a rain garden. Plants have deep tap roots and are best left undisturbed once established. Foliage is slow to emerge in the spring. Plant with queen of the prairie, ligularia, cardinal flowers, Siberian and pseudocorus iris.
