Hardy, carefree North American plant that is irresistible to butterflies. Rigid stems with long, thin foliage are topped with flat umbles of flower clusters, followed by attractive seedheads. Carefree in full sun and well drained soil. Thrives in drought. Late to break dormancy. Zone 3-9. Deep tap root, difficult to transplant. Plant with coneflowers, delphiniums, daisies, artemisia, echinops, and grasses. Host plant for Grey Hairstreak Monarch and Queen Butterflies.
