Chinensis type with erect heavy plume-like panicles. Dark green leaves. Rich, evenly moist, acid soil in partial shade. Cannot endure drought. Zone 3-8. Morning sun/Afternoon shade is fine. Plant in groups and drifts of color in shady borders, woodland edge, and beside ponds and streams. Bloom times of astilbes vary widely, so you can have a continuous bloom of astilbes all summer. Plant with ferns, hosta, foxglove, turtleheads, ligularia, thalictrum an anemone. Deer and Rabbit Resistant. Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds.
