A native wildflower that typically occurs on forest floors, rocky woods and ledges in the Appalachian Mountains. Flowering may stop in very hot weather, but will pick up again when it cools off. At home in the perennial border or woodland garden. Prefers moist, well drained, fertile soils in shade or morning sun. Dead heading will increase bloom but is not necessary. Native to the eastern US. Zone 3-9.
