Native species. Stiff stalks with coarse, toothed, dark green leaves hold large, lavender-pink flowers with recurved petals surrounding a golden cone. Seed heads attract finches and sparrows in winter. Summer cutflower. Plant in a sunny site in well drained fertile soil. Best with long flowering plants for the sunny border or wildflower meadow. Plant with heliopsis, yarrow, coreopsis, daylilies, liatris, helianthus, rudbeckia, and ornamental grass.
