Robust, clump-forming plant easily grown in diverse habitats. Evergreen. Called Christmas fern because still green over winter and leaflets are shaped like stockings. Likes moist woodlands but does very well among rocks and on dryish slopes. Native. Zone 5-10. Excellent for planting on shady slopes for erosion control. Makes beautiful patches of green all winter in woodland landscape.
