Common native deciduous fern that grows quickly into a large colony. Fronds taper toward the base. Similar to hay scented fern in appearance but with different growth habit. Deer resistent. Prefers shade to part shade in moist woodland soil. Less aggressive in drier soil. Great companion for bulbs & woodland ephemerals. Zone 4-8. Plant with other woodland native plants. Provides shelter for toads.
