Extremely hardy and pest resistant plant. Stout and sturdy with large, slightly hairy, dentate, green foliage. Flowers in early summer with impressive plumes. Partial shade in moist soil. Will tolerate soggy soil. Zone 2-7. Wonderful showy plants for the back of the shady border, woods edge, or pond side. Plant with caltha, Iris pseudacorus, ligularia, monarda, lobelia, and trollius. Fragrant and can be used as a cut flower.
