Clematis Empress

The stunning double flowers of 'Empress' Clematis open to reveal interesting layers of uniquely shaped petals. Initially the outer petals are light pink and feature and attractive central line in a slightly darker pink. The center of the flower appears like a pompom of creamy yellow and green. With time, the flower's petals deepen to a slightly darker pink with the center to match. 'Empress blooms it's first round in late spring, followed by round two early fall. This Clematis can be trained to climb on walls or trellises, or can sprawl as a ground cover. 

Full sun - part shade. Average, moist, well-draining soil. Zone 4-8.

Attracts pollinators, deer resistant, Black Walnut tolerant. 

Blooms on old and new wood - avoid pruning. If pruned to ground, next seasons flowering will be reduced and/or delayed. 

Apply mulch at root zone to keep soil cool and uniformly moist.
