This Japanese Holly requires no pruning to maintain its tight columnar growth of dark evergreen foliage and it's highly adaptable to a wide range of sun and soil conditions. A slower growing holly, that produces small, non-significant green/white flowers in late spring-early summer, that when planted near a male produce round, black fruit droops in fall.
Full sun- part shade. Any soil that is moist and well-draining. Protect from winter winds. Tolerant of a wide range of soils from heavy clay to light sand. Tolerant of air pollution, and once established, moderately tolerant of drought.
No pruning required as this shrub maintains is columnar form naturally, however trimming can take place in summer.
