Showy flowers with intense fragrance grow from bulbs of overlapping fleshy scales. Flowering stems bear whorled narrow leaves with several flowers and buds at the top. Great cut flower. Good container lily. Part shade or in a cool sunny spot. Plant bulb at least 4 inches deep in moist, rich, acid, well drained soil. Can be left undisturbed for many years and allowed to multiply naturally. Plant in a part shady border in groups of three or more. Intense bright color for the shady spot. Plant with hosta, astilbe, ferns, lobelia, and chelone. Plant among groundcovers as a natural specimen plant. Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds.
