A spreading subshrub with dark green lance shaped, aromatic leaves on branching red stems. Leaves emerge purple and fade to green.  Blooms in masses of tubular mauve blooms in late summer. Likes full sun in any well drained soil. Drought tolerant. Good plant for reliable late summer bloom even in a drought with perovskia, helianthus, boltonia, catananche, centranthus, sedum, and solidago.
