Graceful unbranched stems neatly arranged with alternate, oval, green leaves on one side and pendulous clusters of blooms on the other. Best in full shade to partial shade in cool, moist, woodland type soil. A shady border or woodland garden plant. Use among trees and shrubs with hosta, ferns, tricyrtis, helleborus, tiarella, woodland phlox, and aquilegia.
