An east coast native that provides weeks of color in mid-summer. Bushy plants with square stems and ovate, toothed, green leaves bear branching loose racemes of two-lipped, purplish-blue tubular flowers. Best in full sun to part shade in average to dry soil. Prefers dryish, sandy or clay soils. Native to most of the Eastern US. Nice woods edge plant or naturalizing plant. Plant with asclepias, ornamental  grass, yarrow, asters, tall sedums, oenothera, and coreopsis.
