Grandest of spring flowering natives and the easiest trillium to grow. Clump-forming with wavy, egg-shaped green leaves bearing large wavy-edged, flaring flowers. Will go summer dormant. Plant in a cool, moist, leafy, loamy soil, in a site shaded from afternoon sun. Native along most of the Eastern US. Good ornamental for wild woodland garden or shady borders. Plant with uvualaria, bloodroot, corydalis, actaea, cimicifuga, bleeding heart, hepatica, epimediums, ferns, hosta, tricyrtis, and ginger.
