This is a mid-size semi-evergreen azalea composed of glossy, olive green foliage that takes on reddish tones through winter. In late spring, 'Girard's Fuchsia' blooms it's slightly wavy, bright fuchsia flowers in mass. Looks great when planted as a specimen or as a hedge, edge, screen, or in containers.
Part shade. Acidic, humusy, moist, well-draining soi. Zone 5-8.
Attracts pollinators including butterflies and hummingbirds.
Consider planting in raised beds if planting in clay soil.
Apply mulch to protect roots by maintaining soil moisture and temperature.
To lower soil acidity, apply sulfur or iron sulfate. To increase soil acidity, apply limestone or lime.
'Blooms on old wood - prune immediately after flowering. Remove spent blooms as practical.
