Attractive plants with large compound leaves springing from a root-crown. The flower stalks form showy spires of gleaming white berries with black dot on red stalks. Berries are poisonous. Prefers a sheltered woodland site in full or part shade with moist humus soil. US Native. Zone 3-8. Plant with azaleas, wild ginger, Virginia blue bells, hostas, and ferns.
