North American native woodland plant very hardy but dormant after spring bloom. Rosettes of pale green leaves send up leafless stems bearing a cluster of star shaped flowers. Moist woodland soil in part shade. Leave undisturbed once planted. Tolerant of summer drought while dormant. Native to most of Eastern and Midwestern US. Zones 3-9. Bright early summer blooming woodland plant or shady rock garden plant. Interplant with cyclamen, primrose, ferns, hosta, epimedium, lamium, and woodland phlox.
