Picked up first by their sweet and astringent scent, copper red flowers bloom throughout this open small tree in winter making for a striking addition to the landscape. Plant near foot traffic to appreciate flower’s scent.
Deer resistant, erosion control, clay tolerant (with good drainage).
Full sun-part shade. Best bloom in full sun. Average, rich, moist, acidic, well-draining soil. Zone 5-9.
Remove suckers, particularly from below graft region, to prevent colonial spread.
Pruning can be done in spring for size and shape.
