Woodland plant producing a single leaf during the fall which stays green throughout the winter with purple pigmentation on the underside. Thrives in part shade to full shade; in moist humus enriched soil in a woodland/forest. Use to naturalize areas with spring woodland bulbs, bleeding hearts, actaea, epimedium, tiarella, columbine, and uvularia. Plant in shady borders or rock gardens.
