This upright deciduous shrub produces dark blueish-green leaves that remain beautiful all season long. They provide a stellar background for the late summer bell-shaped pinkish-white flowers and the large pink and purple berries that follow in early fall. Those berries remain vibrant through winter, and though they are inedible for people, they provide an excellent food source for birds. A wonderful additon to boarders, screen, and the landscape, and looks great in mass plantings or as a specimen. If not left for the critters, these berries look excellent in cut flower arrangement.
Full sun - part sun. Great flower/berry production in higher sun. Average, moist, well-draining soil. Zone 3-7.
Attracts pollinators, deer resistant, erosion control.
Blooms on new wood - cut back to 1' in spring as new growth begins to emerge, in addition to removing death or damage.
